Youth Advisory Council
What is it?
The Youth Advisory Council is a group of up to 15 students age 13-21 who gather for several months to share STEAM with their communities and contribute to decision-making around STEAM education in their region. They are paid for their time and develop relationships with each other and their community over the course of their terms.
Why It’s Important:
The Youth Advisory Council is a rare opportunity for YOUTH to contribute to the conversations determining the future of STEAM education, opportunities, and careers in the East Metro region. This takes place through:
- Sharing the excitement, opportunities, and career-paths with their school
- Providing youth perspective at partnership gatherings
- Reminding the adults in education, business, and community organizations that their opinion matters
How It Works:
EMSP releases an application for students age 13-21 who live, work, attend school, or attend an out-of-school program in the East Metro region. Students who have served no more than 2 previous terms on the Youth Advisory Council may apply. They are paid up to $500 for their attendance at every-other-week meetings for several months, develop and implement a project in their school or community regarding STEAM opportunities and/or careers, and contribute to EMSP meetings and programming.
